The Puerto de Santander begins the demolition of the Solvay ship-Press NOTE (01/17/2012)

In the morning today the demolition work of the facades of the old Solvay ship began, once it has been completed with the careful and slow process of disassembly of the fiber cement cover, which has required a special treatment of the materials that made up. This operation, necessary for the demolition of the ship, began on December 19 and was the first step for the reorganization of the Santander Maritime Front.
The work for the complete demolition of the structure and the adaptation of the plot for the new use that will be given as a parking lot of vehicles that embark on the ferry will last over the next six weeks. Subsequently, the area will be paved and adapt to the roads that will change the interior traffic of the port, improving the environment to facilitate the working conditions of Brittany Ferries, Civil Guard and National Police in relation to the safety standards.
These actions will be a radical change in traffic management generated by the ferry line with England. The vehicles to embark will access the access control of Antonio López-Ruiz de Alda and those that land will have access to the General Highway Network through the Raos bridge. Likewise, a new pedestrian access control will be established in Antonio López Street, at the height of the Customs Build are waiting for shipping.
The works will last for five months and will involve an investment of 167,000 euros in the demolition of the Solvay ship, and more than 460,000 euros in the sum of all the works that are going to be carried out.
