The Palacete del Embarcadero, whose silhouette is today the icon of the Institution's logo, was the first in the list of border buildings, on the land-sea boundary, (Maritime Station, Cabo Mayor Lighthouse) in which after its rehabilitation or redevelopment, the Port Authority of Santander has expressed and expresses with greater intensity its civic will and its cultural commitment, inherent to its status as an Institution and whose foundation is the growth and enrichment of this port city.
In 1985 the building of the Palacete del Embarcadero was refurbished to host events and exhibitions, beginning a period of activities whose trajectory has made it a recognized cultural symbol beyond the local sphere, as well as an emblem of port-city relations.
In these more than thirty years of uninterrupted activities, the Palacete del Embarcadero has programmed nearly 350 exhibitions and events, with an annual influx of visitors that usually exceeds 50,000. There have been 197 exhibitions dedicated to artistic activity, of which 139 have been solo exhibitions of contemporary artists, not only of artists of our region with greater projection, but also a large number of the most important national and international artists, many of them fundamental in the art of the late twentieth century.
The port maritime world has been the protagonist of the exhibitions on more than 40 occasions, 28, specifically the Port of Santander, with the rest of the exhibitions being of scientific dissemination and others of diverse themes, normally related to the activities of local and/or regional organizations or institutions.
