The Ankaria Foundation launched earlier this year the call Ankaria Photo, First International Award for Photography of the XXI Century, open to visual artists from anywhere in the world who contributed unpublished photographic projects or that had been developed in the last three years, and that explored new expressive ways within the photographic language.
The winners of the call are Mayra Martell -tutored by Joan Fontcuberta- and Jon Gorospe. Both will be part of this exhibition with two proposals that look to the future and move away from the documentary past of the image as an instant. Their works anticipate new paths to be considered in the digital era.
On the one hand, Mayra Martell's Wildhunting project reflects to the point of absurdity the paroxysm of social networks, a fictitious world where the wives of drug traffickers are exhibited in the same way as the partners of famous soccer players, resulting in a mixture of intimacy and "extimacy" that is as surprising as it is incredible.
For his part, the Basque photographer Jon Gorospe, currently based in Oslo, scours the web with his project Noraezean in search of urban landscapes of the Basque Country not portrayed by the Google camera, and what he proposes is a kind of walk that allows us to reflect on the identity of the place in a different way than a few decades ago. If before the topographies were physical, now there is a new online cartography that can be manipulated in an easy and interested way.
The exhibition can be visited at the Palacete del Embarcadero from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Sundays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Admission to the center is free.
