Warm tribute to José Luis Casado Soto-Press NOTE (12/19/2014)

The Acts Hall of the Botín Foundation hosted on the afternoon of December 19 the presentation of the monograph that the magazine 'Portus', publication edited by Rete (International Association for Collaboration between Ports and Cities), has dedicated to the city and The port of Santander in its autumn number. The act was chaired by José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, president of the Port Authority of Santander, César Díaz Maza, Councilor for Works of the City Council of Santander and Emilio Brogueira, president of Rete and head of the port of Leixoes, the most important port of Portugal .
Next to them were present at this event, the Minister of Culture of the Government of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Serna, the widow and daughter of José Luis Casado Soto and several of the collaborators who have participated in this issue of the magazine.
Within this act, which was attended by large audiences, tribute was paid to Casado Soto, one of whose articles appears in said monograph. José Joaquín Martinez Sieso highlighted the figure of the Cantabrian historian, and described his latest work published in Portus as "Magnificent article." He also referred to the rest of the collaborators of this special, who, he added, “sets a before and after in the publications of Rete because in the case of Santander a port and urban approach of the city has been made since the vision of its town hall , of its port and through important firms that have nothing to do with the two institutions. ”
After this presentation, Emilio Brogueira intervened; and Rinio Bruttomsso, urban architect and designer and director of the Scientific Committee of Rete and the Portus magazine, and José Luis Gil. He closed the clear act, the daughter of José Luis Casado Soto who read the article written by his father entitled ‘Santander and his port against the oceans of the world’.
‘Portus Portrait Santander’
The special 'Portus Portrait ”dedicated to Santander has been prepared by more than twenty professionals and experts from different disciplines, and consists of an interesting and suggestive tour of the history, the present and future of the port and its relationship with the city .
Its contents are articulated through different sections under epigraphs such as 'day by day' in which the aforementioned articles of José Luis Gil and José Luis Casado Soto, “Santander, Work in Progress”, “The transformation of the maritime front” appear , "Puerto, Culture and Urban Identity"; Sections in which articles from Cristina López, director of the port are collected; César Díaz Maza, Councilor for Works of the City of Santander, Íñigo Sáenz de Miera, director of the Botín Foundation, Ignacio Pereda, dean of the College of Architects, and Alejandro Abascal, director of the CEAR DE VELA, among other relevant names. The special also includes interviews with the mayor of Santander, Íñigo de la Serna, and the president of the port, José Joaquín Martínez Sieso.
