The Official State Gazette published on September 19 the resolution of the Port Authority of Santander, which is convened by the public tender for the works of the fourth cargo route for cars in the Central Espigón de Raos. The execution period of the works is 4 months and the bidding amount is 921,424 euros. This route will be north of the three currently existing and will have an approximate length of 660 meters.
With this work, the port of Santander will be provided with a more railroad branch for Ro-Rro traffic, especially vehicles. The three that are currently in operation maintain a very high level of occupation, and this new route will serve to increase traffic maintaining quality dimensions, which have been placing the port of Santander between the two best valued by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers, ANFAC
Last year the port moved a total of 309,111 vehicles, of which a high percentage used the railroad as an access or output route. This year, in interannual terms, this traffic is growing in percentages of more than 20 percent. The cars movement is mainly developed in spring 8 of Raos, in the central breakwater.
