The president of the Government of Cantabria, Ignacio Diego; The mayor of Santander, Íñigo de la Serna and the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, together with the members of the Board of Directors, opened on September 3 the rehabilitation of the Dike of Gamazo, the most important project in the recovery of the seab lead of the capital of Santander. Other authorities, local and regional also participated in the spot.
The performance carried out in the dike is integrated perfectly, and in an outstanding way, within the new aspect presented by the San Martín area, in the face of the next Candle World Cup, which begins next week.
More than a million euros of investment in a space considered well of cultural interest
Although initially it was budgeted at two million euros, the rehabilitation works of the Gamazo dike and its surroundings, which reaches the Nautical-Pesquera school, have been undertaken at 1.1 million euros. The winning company has been roads and contracts, with a period of execution of the work of 10 months, and on a total area of 13,833 square meters.
Among the actions that have been integrated into the project, which was carried out by the architect Luis Castillo, are the integral cleaning of the dike, the urbanization and adaptation of its environment and the installation of a perimeter railing that allows its observation without risk; the restoration of the old pump house, which has become an exhibition space; The restoration of the perimeter fence, both the stone and the iron, and the opening of four sections so that they become access to the enclosure, as well as the repair of the outer sidewalk.
