The port of Santander has officially presented its candidacy to be the headquarters of the International Conference of Cruise Europe, an international organization of which it is a member, which will be held in 2015. This proposal was completed within the framework of the Miami Seatrade Fair, the appointment most important in the cruise sector that has been held in this American city in mid -March, and in which the port of Santander participated within the stand of Spain.
The Cruise Europe International Conference is a professional meeting attended by the most important ports of Europe integrated into this organization, more than 100, and shipping companies in the cruise sector. In addition to conferences, workshops and other sector activities take place during the appointment. The Magdalena Palace would be the chosen stage in case Santander welcomes the match.
Christmas cruise
Santander is firmly betting on the cruise activity, and every year receives more scales of tourist ships. In 2013 there will be 14 ships that will be the city, compared to 10 in 2012, and the forecasts are that in 2014 increase the number of cruises that reach the Puerto Santander. Regarding the number of passengers, in 2013 it is planned to be more than 20,000, more than double than in 2012, when 10,000 were touched.
The cruise season in the port of Santander begins on April 8 with the arrival of Aida Cara, and will last until October with Thomson Spirit. This year, as a novelty, there will be a Christmas cruise that will arrive on December 26.
As positive data of this campaign, to point out that two new shipping companies that had not stopped before in Cantabria, the British Saga and Thomson will arrive. For its part, the AIDA company will bring Santander five times to its new Aida Stella ship, which has just left the shipyard.

Likewise, the port of Santander has during 2013 the presidency of the Costa Verde Association that encompasses the ports of Bilbao, Santander, Gijón and Coruña, which joined with the aim of promoting green Spain as a destination for cruises.
Among the activities that Santander will lead during its presidency, a familiarization trip for British shipping companies is planned, which will take place before summer.
