Ford chooses the port of Santander to export the ‘Kuga’ model to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Norway-Press NOTE (01/25/2013)
24 Jan 2013
The port of Santander received on January 23 the first train from the Ford factory in Almussafes, Valencia, which arrived with 180 vehicles, most of them from the Ford Kuga model. This is the first time Ford arrives in Santander through the railroad. Automobiles, transported by the Pecovasa rail operator, are discharged in the Central Escorto de Raos Automobile Terminal from where they are embarked on ships of the Höegh Autoliner and United European Carriers, EUECC ships.
The final destination of these cars is Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, countries with which the port of Santander is weekly together through the Höegh line, and Norway, through the EUEC line, which has two scales to the Week in Santander.
Initially an annual volume of 10,000 units is planned, but this figure could increase once new destinations are incorporated from Santander.
It must be remembered that in the last report published by the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers, Anfac, Santander obtained first place in the port ranking with a qualification "until now never reached by any port."
