More than fifty businessmen in the agri -food sector of Castilla y León visited the port of Santander
More than fifty businessmen in the agri -food sector of Castilla y León gathered at the headquarters of the Santander Port Authority to participate in a day on agri -food logistics. The objective of this meeting, in the words of the president of the PHC, José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, was that “all present can know about the land the extraordinary quality of the service provided in the port of Santander in matters of agri -food merchandise. Good services and quality and very competitive costs ”.
Together with José Joaquín Martínez Sieso were the General Directors of Agricultural Industries and modernization of farms and transports from Castilla y León, Jorge Morro and José Antonio Cabrejas, respectively. The latter is also advisor to the port of Santander. For the APS, in addition to its president, the director, Javier de la Riva, attended. Likewise, the General Director of Transportation of the Government of Cantabria, Fermín Llaguno; and the Head of Services of this General Directorate, Manuel Ballesteros.
José Joaquín Martínez Sieso said in the presentation of the meeting that "the port of Santander wants to be the port of Castilla y León, and this for historical and close reasons, but also for competitiveness and efficiency."
For his part, José Antonio Cabrejas, highlighted the presence of Castilla y León in the port of Santander through his representation in the Board of Directors. Likewise, Cabrejas valued this day very positively by showing “very interesting competitiveness factors, such as environmental quality or safety”. He also pointed out as a factor of interest for Castellanoleon businessmen the cost criteria.
Jorge Morro addressed the attendees of this day pointing out that it is an “opportunity for the port of Santander and for companies in the agri -food sector, mainly for two very important sectors such as those of the manufacture of flours and feed. Both are very important industries for Castilla y León because they invoice around 2,000 million euros. ” In this sense, he referred to export as a factor that is helping to resist the crisis better: "Those who had already begun to export are the ones who are best supporting the crisis."
Fermín Llaguno also directed a few words to the Castilian -Leon businessmen highlighting the innovative commitment of the port of Santander that makes him, added, "more efficient and more competitive."
After these first interventions, the meeting entered its most technical phase with the presentation of the port made by David Marcano, head of the planning and exploitation area of the Port Authority of Santander. Marcano presented some of the characteristics of the port of Santander, and above all, in relation to agri -food activity, and how to have terminals such as those of the port of Santander are great advantages over other less modern conventional systems, which offer lower performance. Among other aspects related to the terminal of agri -food solid bulk, Marcano highlighted his sustainable character, to the extent that he avoids contamination of particles of the agri -food products themselves, and prevents them from, in turn, can be contaminated with other goods; its high technification to be practically automated; The savings of costs in freight by allowing rapid download, and its great capacity to move merchandise since it is designed to manipulate up to 2 million tons per year.
Those responsible for the agri -food solid bulk terminal, Rate, Andrés Gómez Bueno, and Álvaro Barrio, presented in depth the characteristics of this port installation that was subsequently visited by entrepreneurs.
RATE
The agri -food solid bulk terminal managed by the company Rate occupies around 3 ha next to the 4 ROOS dock of the Puerto de Santander. Among the products that are most handled in this terminal are wheat, rye, barley, corn and other cereals, and bulbing, palm and soy flours. This terminal has managed to eliminate the environmental pollution caused by the emission of agri -food solid powder. Each dust emission point has its respective filtration system.
The agri -food solid bulk terminal integrates three areas: discharge, storage and load. These three areas are communicated through conveyor belts and chain transporters.
