The Miami delegation that Cantabria has traveled with its mayor, Tomás Regalado, at the head, visited the facilities of the Puerto de Santander where he was received by the Minister of Innovation, Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Eduardo Arasti, which is also vice president of the Port Authority, together with the director of the same, Javier de la Riva. They were also on the visit to the port of Santander Miguel Cabetas, CEO of Sodercan; Julián Linares, International Relations Advisor of the Mayor of Miami, and Mariano Coating, Head of the Commercial Department of Puerto de Santander. Next to them were also Sodercan technicians.
Arasti said that this trip is important for Cantabria and Spain for its history, culture and common linguistic reality between Miami and the state of Florida. The meeting, said the counselor, has served to establish a "dynamic of projects in common with the promotion of investments and commercial relations where the port of Santander is one of Cantabria's best windows to the world."
The Miami delegation toured some of the most representative facilities of the port and received information about the main traffic, both from goods and passengers.
In 1999 the port of Santander and the port of Miami-Dade signed a twinning agreement. This agreement established, among others, the exchange of information on loading activity and cruises or on statistical data, or the creation of technical and financial means to promote traffic activities between both ports.
