The results of port traffic continue with an upward trend
The more than 1,115,000 tons operated by the port of Santander during the first two months of the year, represent a new traffic record with an increase of 30,000 tons over the second best result in this period, recorded in 2002.
The president of the Port Authority, Francisco Martin, said that these figures show that the port "continues with positive data, although we must anticipate a possible change in trend due to the uncertainty that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is generating in world trade."
Santander 07-03-22. With 1,115,336 tons, the accumulated of the months of January and February 2022 has yielded a good result for the port of Santander, specifically 17.5% higher than that obtained in the same period of 2021. A figure that represents another record for the Cantabrian dock since it exceeds by 30,000 tons to the, so far, best result of this period that was recorded in 2002. However, the president of the APS, Francisco Martin, said that this data should be analyzed "with caution" because, "although we continue with a positive trend, the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine is generating uncertainty in world trade that could affect us in the near future to all ports".
Of the total traffic obtained in the month of February, 367,113 tons have been of solid bulk, 14,724 of liquid bulk and 216,014 of general cargo, representing an increase of 6.1% over the same month of 2021.
Of the 1,115,336 tons reached during the first two months of the year, 641,429 correspond to solid bulks, 33,989 to liquid bulks and 439,918 to general cargo.
Within the general cargo, which represents 39.4 % of the goods moved through the port, the positive performance of products such as wire rod or sodium carbonate stands out. On the other hand, cereals, fertilizers or iron and steel products stand out among the solid bulk cargoes, and bioethanol among the liquid bulk cargoes.
Ro-Ro (ro-ro) traffic increased from 353,240 tons in the cumulative figure to February 2021 to 371,393 tons in 2022, an increase of 5.1 %.
As for containers, they have gone from 4,761 TEUs (20-foot containers) between January and February 2021 to 5,770 registered in the same period of 2022, an increase of 21.2 %.
