The top representatives of the University of Cantabria (UC) and the Port Authority of Santander (APS), José Carlos Gómez Sal and José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, respectively, have presented the book ‘Bahía de Santander. Geotechnical Atlas ’, a useful tool with the objective of“ disseminating information that can help society improve what is done in the future in various aspects ”, starting with“ urban planning ”. This was explained by the author of the book, David Marcano Ceballos, an associate professor of the UC for 23 years and current chief of Plan's planning and exploitation area, stating that “geotechnical information is worth a lot of money” because it can avoid “increments of work cost ”. This new work can also help technicians, architects, engineers, designers and promoters to “improve future projects that we do in the territory” of the Bay's arch, by anticipating the geotechnical risks beforehand that will have to face during the works. The ATLAS, which derives from a previous doctoral thesis of this road engineer, channels and ports for the UC, includes "annexes and geotechnical records" with very detailed information from each plot, in addition to material that may also be interested in a non -specialized reader , such as "the geotechnical problems that have been in certain works, precisely because of a defective knowledge of the soil." In any case, Marcano Ceballos warned that his book "does not replace a geotechnical recognition", but that "it is information that helps" and must be proven before performing any project. In the presentation, the Rector of the UC explained that the new book “is the most important work of collection of data from the entire geotechnics of Santander and can also serve as a basis for the possible particular developments that can be made of the environment of the Bay ” In addition, he highlighted the joint edition between the UC Edition Service and that of the PHC, within the collaboration that both institutions maintain, since “the Port Authority is one of the members of Cantabria International Campus”, in addition to sharing “many More activities in common "that" they will continue to develop. " For his part, the president of the APS, José Joaquín Martínez Sieso, praised the weight of Marcano Ceballos not only in the APS, but "in the general port system", highlighting that "if the compilation, systematization and georeferencing effort of the Historically accumulated geological and geotechnical data, already supposes in itself an exceptional contribution to technical knowledge and territorial characterization of the Bay of Santander, the conceptual and methodological instrumentation used by the author represents a remarkable contribution to the conception and elaboration of geotechnical Atlas ”. ‘Santander Bay. Geotechnical Atlas ’is available through the UC website, digital platforms, in almost all national libraries and distributors.
