The president of the Port Authority of Santander, Francisco Martin, this morning made a tour of the port facilities to present to his counterpart in Puertos del Estado, what he called "the new port of Santander". For the president of the Port Authority "this transformation is the consequence of the change of model of the port, with its commitment to general merchandise and energy sustainability", a turn "of great added value" fundamental for the industry of Cantabria, which has allowed to beat the historical records of cargo. With more than 180 million euros in public-private investments, the head of the Cantabrian dock accompanied him to visit the infrastructures "that will serve to rationalize the port space without having to resort to filling the bay or the construction of a super port". Regarding this last point, the president of the Port Authority, claimed the need to bet "decisively" for the transport of goods by rail "if we want to reduce emissions and work for sustainable mobility" and noted the importance of Santander can be connected to the Basque Y. For his part, Rodriguez Dapena defended "the country's need to increase its share of rail freight transport", and stressed that "the Spanish port system contemplates an investment of one billion euros to improve its integration with the railroad". In addition, they studied the impact that Brexit has had on the operation of the port and discussed the threat posed by cases of intrusion on a day-to-day basis. As for the port-city relationship, Martin informed the president of Puertos del Estado of the creation of a master plan, drawn up by the consultancy firm ARUP, which may soon be presented and which contains a new vision and management of port land uses that will, in turn, allow for a major rearrangement of the seafront. The representatives of Puertos del Estado also had the opportunity to meet with the main shipping agents, concessionaires and service providers of the port to learn first hand their contributions to achieve a better functioning of the port.
