The president of the Port Authority of Santander, Francisco Martin, said today that the new fertilizer terminal, to be built and operated by COBASA for a period of 30 years, will be "one of the most advanced in the world in transport, automatic weighing and storage of bulk fertilizers" and will mean "the optimization of the performance of unloading of goods, saving operating costs and significantly reducing emissions of greenhouse gases". Martín also emphasized that it is an "environmentally friendly" infrastructure since, as the operations are carried out in an encapsulated manner, "there will be no dust emissions". The head of the port also pointed out that, with this installation, the APS "already has a finished surface area of about 75% of the land". For his part, the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Innovation, Transport and Trade, Javier López Marcano, stressed that this infrastructure is "another step in the good progress of the port" which, as he recalled, is "fundamental in the economic weight of Cantabria" with 12.72% of GDP and 11.16% of employment. López Marcano has also highlighted the importance for the region of "the constant modernization of the port" with the provision of new services and facilities "that increase the competitiveness of Cantabrian industry in international markets".
