The port of Santander receives, for the first time, the cruise ship Spirit of Adventure
This ship, owned by the shipping company Saga, will be the third to visit Cantabria since the beginning of the pandemic.
Regional and local authorities have presented a plaque to the captain, Franko Papic, as a tribute to the first call of the ship in Santander.
Santander 15-10-21. The ship Spirit of Adventure, consigned by Perez & CIA and owned by the shipping company Saga, has docked today at the Maritime Station in what is his first visit to the region.
The cruise ship, 236 meters long and 31.2 meters wide, left the German Meyer Werft shipyard last year and, although its maximum capacity is 1000 passengers, 800 of them, mostly British, have visited Cantabria due to COVID measures. The Spirit of Adventure has also arrived in port with 550 crew members.
To celebrate its first stop in Santander, the director of the Port Authority, Santiago Diaz Fraile and the Councillor for Tourism of the City of Santander, Miriam Diaz, have given the captain, Franko Papic, a commemorative plaque and some books of Santander and Cantabria for the library on board.
The Spirit of Adventure, a luxury cruise ship that offers some of the largest suites in the industry, has entered the port at eight o'clock in the morning, from Le Verdon (France) and is scheduled to depart for Leixoes (Portugal) at five in the afternoon.
An important part of the cruise passengers of this ship are taking advantage of their stay in Cantabria to make excursions to Santander and Santillana.
For the organization of the stopovers and the promotion of cruise tourism, the APS, the Government of Cantabria and the City Council of Santander have created the brand Santander Cruise Deluxe. The objective is to attract new traffic to the region. In the case of the Spirit of Adventure, the City Council collaborates with the contribution of plans and support staff, while the Regional Government collaborates with the hiring of a group of pipers and tambourine players who will welcome the cruise passengers.
