New railroad access to the Central Breakwater of Raos The APS Board of Directors has approved this morning an investment of 5.5 million euros for the execution of the project. The president of the APS, Francisco Martin, said this morning, after the meeting of the Board of Directors of the APS, that the renovation of the North Railway Track of the Central Breakwater of Raos is a "further step" in the modernization of the railroad in the port and that it is a "fundamental" work for "the proper operation and management of the port". Martin recalled that "precisely" the railroad is one of the "unfinished business" in all ports belonging to the Spanish State-owned Port System and that, although the port of Santander is "above average in rail freight transport", this is "clearly insufficient" if the objective is to reduce emissions and to commit to sustainable mobility "in line with European recommendations". For Martin is "difficult to understand" that road transport is "more economical" so it has stressed the need for Santander can be connected to the Basque Y "a second outlet for the goods claimed on numerous occasions by our operators". The renovation of the North Railway Track of the Central Breakwater of Raos will have an investment of 5.5 million euros, approved this morning by the Board of Directors, and an execution period of ten months. The project includes the construction of 2,167 meters of concrete slab track, Iberian gauge (1,688 mm), without electrification, for freight traffic only. This renovation includes the construction of three track sections: - North track, Raos Central Breakwater. It has a length of 1,453.1 meters and starts on the west side of the enclosure next to the Raos-Actimarsa road. - Connection with Cementos Alfa. It has a length of 197.2 meters. This road connects the "Vía Norte Espigón Central de Raos" with the already renovated access road to the cement and liquid bulk terminals (Cementos Alfa and Alkion). - Container Track Beach. Consisting of a double track formed by the final section of the "Raos Central Breakwater North Track" and the track itself called "Container Track Beach". The latter is 516.4 meters long.
