Santander, September 8, 2022. The multicolored lighthouse of Ajo stars in the ONCE coupon for Saturday, September 17. Five and a half million coupons will show this emblematic lighthouse located in the Cantabrian municipality of Bareyo and support of an iconic work of Santander artist Okuda San Miguel. The coupon has been presented this morning in the vicinity of the lighthouse of Ajo, in a ceremony in which they have intervened the technical director of the ONCE in Cantabria, Sergio Cano; director of Colouring the World Foundation, Claudia Reigosa; the mayor of Bareyo, Angela Ruiz, and the president of the port authority, Francisco Martin. Infinite Cantabria' is the name with which the artist titled his work on the lighthouse of Ajo. It is the first lighthouse artistically intervened throughout the Spanish coast, respecting its original function of aid to navigation as a maritime signal and becoming a national tourist attraction. A unique work that was possible thanks to the joint work of the Port Authority of Santander and the City Council of Bareyo. For the past two years, the lighthouse has become a symbol of good omens that illuminates us through color, the hallmark of the artist and the foundation that he leads, Colouring the World Foundation. This foundation has initiated a collaboration with the ONCE Foundation for the promotion of diversity and the improvement of the quality of life of people at risk of exclusion. This collaboration between foundations will have its first milestone with the issue of a coupon dedicated to the TITANES project, a Coloring the World Foundation program that promotes the participation of people with disabilities, especially young people, in the creation of works of public art, with the aim of strengthening their expressiveness, their relational environment and their self-esteem. About Okuda San Miguel A graduate in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, his unique iconographic language of geometric structures and multicolored patterns on streets, railroad tracks and abandoned factories around the world have made him one of the world's most recognized urban artists. Pretended for his large-scale projects, Okuda San Miguel is perhaps best known for his late 2015 conversion of an abandoned Asturian church; a Kaos Temple, as it came to be called, which has become a new icon of contemporary art. In his work, multicolored geometric architectures mingle with organic forms, bodies without identity, headless animals and symbols that encourage reflection through artistic pieces that could be classified as Pop Surrealism, but with a clear essence of the streets. His works often raise questions about existentialism, the universe, infinity, the meaning of life and the contradictions of the false freedom of capitalism, showing a conflict between modernity and our roots. Ultimately, between man and himself. About Coloring the World Foundation Coloring the World Foundation is a non-profit organization created by Okuda San Miguel and Ink and Movement, which contributes to the promotion of diversity and the improvement of the quality of life of people and communities in situations of vulnerability and risk of exclusion using art and color as an instrument of transformation and change.
