Javier Mariscal shows his particular vision of the Bay on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Port.
The work shows a 360º tour from the center of the Bay, paying special attention to the geography, urban planning and the great biodiversity of the area.
This work, which is exhibited in the Palacete del Embarcadero, is the result of the traditional summer collaboration between the Port Authority of Santander and the Lafuente Archive.
Santander 19-07-22. The president of the Port Authority, Francisco Martín, today inaugurated the exhibition "150 Years of the Port of Santander" together with the director of the Lafuente Archive, José María Lafuente, the director of CITRASA, Juncal Herreros, and the artist himself, Javier Mariscal.
The intervention, carried out ad hoc for the Palacete del Embarcadero, is based on a reflection on the bay of Santander and its surroundings, paying special attention to the geography, urban planning and the great biodiversity of the area, as well as other elements which represent the idiosyncrasy of the port and the city.
Martín highlighted "the quality and level of detail" of each of the elements of the work and thanked Mariscal for his work, about whom he commented that "seeing the affection that his work exudes, he believes that he has fallen in love with the bay of Santander in this process of creation" and José María Lafuente, for his conceptual work advising the artist so that "nothing was left out". The president of the APS has also assured that this exhibition of Javier Mariscal, which has left him "pleasantly surprised" is "undoubtedly" one of the central events of the 150th anniversary of the Port of Santander and "a cultural event of great importance, the result of the usual collaboration between the Lafuente Archive and the APS and, in this case also, the Ministry of Industry of the Government of Cantabria".
The head of the port also wanted to point out that "Mariscal is a unique figure in Spanish design and that his graphic and narrative look at the bay and the port of Santander envelops the Palacete with a 360º panoramic view that will captivate all those who have the privilege of visiting this work".
For his part, José María Lafuente said he was "very excited" by the result of this work and assured that "this is a work that will last, that will remain in the Lafuente Archive and in one way or another will be available to the city because a work of this type cannot simply be kept".
Javier Mariscal, for his part, wanted to reflect on the symbiosis that, from the beginning, has been produced between the port and the city and described the bay as a "geographical jewel", highlighting the privilege of "living in this city" and pointing out that "we are in one of the most wonderful places on the planet, so we have to use it, look after it and conserve it".
The exhibition, with free admission, will remain open to the public from today until September 25 during the following hours:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Sunday: 11:00 to 14:00 hours.
- Monday closed.
